Albioch’s underworld is what one would expect for a teeming metropolis: busy, messy, and immensely profitable. The High Abbey and the Ministry of Public Safety make some attempts at curbing the worst of it, but a classic truce keeps bloodshed low. The unspoken agreement is to keep the streets safe. General “random” crime, like muggings, pickpockets, cutpurses, and the like are heavily punished.
Notable Factions & Persons
Blackfriar Bill
William “Blackfriar Bill” Timont is probably a mole. Everyone knows it. Bill even makes awkward jokes about it when he gets in his cups. Nevertheless, he at least keeps up the ruse of being a moderately high ranking Abbey official on-the-take.
Slim Willy
He’s a fence; a terrible, terrible fence. He’ll buy literally anything, but his prices are awful. Slim Willy has no standard location in the city, so he must be actively sought by sellers. This is not a measure of exclusivity, just another symptom of Willy’s low abilities.
The Ragged Prince
An upstart making waves in the illicit goods markets, not much is known about The Ragged Prince. He operates out of the north end, often around The Crags and Oddlion Hill. His crew have quickly made a reputation in acquiring rare goods in daring heists. General consensus is that its only a matter of time before they make too much noise and get their wings clipped to make an example of them.
The Scales
-of Justice or the fishy variety? Perhaps an intentional ambiguity on behalf of the Best family. The scales run Low Barnet through Heath-Upon-Slo, with some business in Wileden. As one of the oldest crime families in town, they have a healthy mix of criminal enterprise and above-board business dealings. Notably, the family owns a pair of very fast well armed ships that it uses effectively for a mix of privateering and piracy.
Tarankov “The Biter”
The Russian
diaspora left oddly well funded “business minded individuals” all across the world, and Albioch is no exception. Tarankov (first name unknown) filled a niche in the white-collar crime sector, bringing her expertise in money laundering and other “services” to quickly establish herself.

Adieu, adieu, the poor man said
this cost I can not bear
to see such sights
to hear such songs
alas, I say to theeWhen I was young I still held hope
that fortunes may be turned
these delights I see
could be for me
had I but luck and skillNow I see the real regard
of those with station high
the way they sneer
the way they laugh
it lights a rage in meWhat if there were a place to build
sanctuary from these faults
but to make this place
would cost it all
