When Osnaburg burned, the conflagration took with it the answers to many questions about the mysterious Teutarch state. Years later, an answer to this conundrum has been found and a team of Crown Intelligence operatives plumbs the past for clues.
In 89 H.A. the Teutarch capital of Osnaburg was sieged by Crown forces. Upon actually entering the city, it was empty. Earlier shelling had started a number of fires and they raged unchecked, raising most of the city. The Crown army secured the wreckage, then turned it over to Crown Intelligence. Over the ensuing years they slowly excavated the site aiming to gather a better understanding of the Teutarch’s ruling Witch Tribunal.
Much later, in the Summer of 163 H.A. , the events of An Oft-Remembered Day occur. We learn that the Teutarchs built a defensive artifact in the form of a bell which shunts the nearby population into The Shroud, within a looping simulacrum of the day of problematic events. A few select individuals are “tagged” by the bell to be aware of the loop, aiming to let them develop a strategy to address the issues. In An Oft-Remembered Day , we also learn that this Shroud simulation interacts strangely where it comes in contact with the Vault-stone. Jad’s prison, a collapsed vault entrance, offered a view into both the real world and its Shroud copy. Players in An Oft-Remembered Day used this to stash items between loop iterations.
When excavating the ruins of Osnaburg, Crown Intelligence unearthed a Vault deep within the hillside. This Vault had apparently been discovered by the Teutarchs as well—evidenced by tunnels reaching between it and buildings in town. General exploration of the vault led to the discovery of an overlaid Shroud-Osnaburg. Exiting the Vault carefully, one can step into either Osnaburg, and therefore transit between Shroud and mundane reality by going into and back out of it.
The players assume the role of a team of Crown Intelligence Operatives ordered to explore and document findings from this frozen slice of the past.
